The return of moon and the constellation of stars had not gone unnoticed. Leovan had regarded the Haruspex’s pool in a skeptic wonder as the pulsing light grew stronger and by the whisperings of the other Basiners this was indeed not a “normal” thing of sorts. Well, he had to mutely ask as he would not exactly deem the absence of day, moon and stars a normal thing, but then again nothing seemed normal in this eccentric land of theirs. In the light of the ethereal beacon of hope he had felt inclined to exchange the now somewhat familiar boundaries of the Basin for the tale told wilds, but he had not left the borders without the hesitation of an unfamiliar mind. The Frozen Arch had proved a challenge even for the sturdy, coated steed in his relentless climb and he had not only once caught himself thinking of the return to the comfort of the steaming hot springs in Aurora Basin. Hitherto he had plowed through pristine dune by dune, crossed howling winds and climbed frozen peaks, driven by an inexorable motivation too abstract for the simple mind of mortals. Even though he had sighed in relief at the point of his descending, glazed steppes stretching out in every direction to the point where it emerged with the moonlit heavens. He was clearly not in the best of shape as he had once been, not the paragon of strength he once was.

He emerged to the flats he had long ached for, what he believed he had ached for though the feel of respite would not last for long. Had it not been for his cautiousness in these lands of unacquaintedness he would have stumbled right upon the cyan stain in the otherwise immaculate flat. A wound almost barren of earthen sea foam that hugged the ground in cold embrace. What on earth had he stumbled upon this time? His brows narrowed in utter disbelief as azure shocks of what resembled lightning rose in the blackness of perpetual night, but not before long a rumbling roar, carried by the chill of the northern winds broke him out of his perusing stare. Where his instincts would otherwise have screamed for a flighty escape something stirred within. The reverberating roar had sounded unmistakably like a .. challenge? Jaws clenched and eyes narrowed. He was, by habit, a creature of courtesy but at the sound of the challenge of his authority the ridden pride was conveyed to the surface for the world to see. Leovan shot into motion, following the bread crumbles of cyan stains. Yet, at the sight of the mobile mountain he came to a hasty halt. The scaled, overgrown lizard; several stories tall just by the shoulder, snaked across the plains and once more his instincts shrieked in terror. He had come up behind it, its waving tail threatening to knock him over if he came any closer. He regarded the situation. If he was to charge, the monster would whack him to the ground with ease, but if he was to flee .. Was he to abandon his brethren in time of peril? The notion was set aside as he put his body into a leisurely canter in order to keep control of its tail while creeping closer to the body of the beast. Fighting ‘til I’m dead.
