LeovanFlesh against horn, the resistance of sinew against the tear of a dagger. The horn sank deep, seeped into muscle and tendon alike, the jagged, skyward motions of his cranium tearing the leg apart from within. The ground rumbles as it drags out a last roar, a last cry into the indefinite. And then, then it falls. Glacier ice creaks in agony under the burden laid upon it, azure rivers seeping from one fissure to another. Toppling summits and avalanches. The stallion’s muscles gasps in torment as electric streams reach deep within the fibers, the heart pushes on in distress, mind racing. Blue droplets of liquid had caught his left shoulder as the artery of the leg burst at his efforts, but all he could do, the only thing sensible was to lay enough space between him and the failing beast to avoid being dragged to the underworld of Hades with it. Stop, drop, roll, repeat. Stop, drop, roll, repeat. Mountains echo at the impact, sends swaying motions through the ground and icy projectiles through the air. An iron grip forces him down on his front knees, and so the world goes silent. Utterly silent. Even the pulsating shocks of his bloodstreams silence until his rasping inhales are all that remains. Granite eyes open, azure eyes close. He regards the thing one last time, then stands up casting quick glances at his surroundings in search of his comrades. Nothing fell to sight, yet as he is about to call out a deep, rumbling sound is heard from within the monster as it draws its last breath. The abdomen flesh rips open like a butcher’s knife through butter, talons grasping at the outside world. Leovan often found himself in the pleasurable state of silence, but this was not one of those moments. “The hell is this thing!” |
