The creature's challenge was answered, from the most unlikely of sources. In the wake of its roar, in the unnatural stillness that overcame the common life, came a shriek of defiance. Pale as the newly risen moon, poised in the air like another star, was a gryphon.
While normally a pacifist, a creature who would rather allow the petty wars of her equid counterparts to rise and fall around her, this was no time to stand aside. Even her gaze, usually so focused on the cycles of life and the foundations thereof, could tell that there was something deeply, innately wrong about the titanic monstrosity that rose into being from the heart of the mountains. That wrong must be rectified, and she wasn't above getting her talons dirty to do a litle fixing herself.
Golden eyes flash as she studies the beast of rock and stone and water. It was sturdy, its figure hard yet fluid. Her attention was drawn both toward those virulent green eyes and the small forest that grew on its back. She wondered who else would have the daring to face this beast, and hoped someone would. Someone to keep its attention drawn away from one lightly built gryphon.
Determined, her wings beat against the air, carrying her well above the strange creature as she approached. Then she dove, plummeting out of the sky. Her goal was the trees upon the creature's back, her thought to see if there was some weak spot where hooved creatures could not easily reach. Belatedly she hoped this creature could not reach above itself, could not reach around to brush her away like she would a pesky insect. But she was too far to turn back now.
