Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

Restoration :: We Welcome the Dawn ☼ - 9/21/13 - The sun has finally risen on this day, giving the land new light, but the Time God and the Sun God have yet to be seen.
Endless Night :: Broken Magic Plot ☼ - 8/30/13 - The earth god has returned and is walking across Helovia to heal the land. Every area can now be considered lush and prosperous, but the sun has still not risen.
☼ - 7/19/13 - The moon has risen in the sky, heralding the return of the Goddess of the moon. Lamp trees which light the paths have grown brighter, moon flowers which grow in dark places have begun to grow and prosper and the world is brighter, filled with a new hope.
Endless Night :: Dead Magic Plot ☼ - 6/22/13 - The gods of Helovia, in order to protect the world, have disappeared into the rift, leaving the world sunless, moonless and magic-less in their absence. Only the herdlands have a source of light, but lamp-trees with glowing leaves and branches sporadically line the popular roads and paths from place to place.
Doppleganger Plot ☼ - 6/20/13 - The God of Time is still struggling to close the rift though which the dopplegangers have come. He has requested that his brothers and sister assist in closing this hole, but without knowing why it opened, the task is proving difficult. Magic still remains faulty and hard to control, but the herdlands continue to be places of refuge for those who are fortunate enough to call these lands home.
ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

Character of the Month for
June, 2017
WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

This is a contest to have your art featured as the main banner for a new site layout which will come in around 1 month.
The theme of this layout is: RESTORATION
What does this mean? The layout theme will reflect when all of the gods have returned to Helovia after the Endless Night site wide plot, so the concept can be as broad as you want it to be! Basically, the idea is to represent Helovia as you consider it to be in a "normal" state.

But even though there is snow and dark clouds left on the horizon, the beauty of the world has never been as obvious as it is now.

OOC name :: Abba Name of the Entry:: I Breathe Disaster Summary or explanation of your entry:: So, basically, the sun has started to rise again and magic has returned to the land of Helovia. This random horse can now access their magic and decides to stir up a massive sandstorm, causing his eye to glow - and he's adorned with an Earth God Amulet to hint toward his Earth magic. And. The horse is just overall beastly and rejuvinated with the return of the Gods to go out and do anything that's strewn in his path.

OOC name :: Dark Name of the Entry:: BREATH OF LIFE Summary or explanation of your entry:: Because the theme is 'Restoration', I saw the horse helping restore the land, given this job because of the symbols on it's body. The elk is it's companion, it's 'protector'. The elk's breath brings plants, and the horse's magic restores earth. This shows the sun rising as they restore the land, showing the fall of the darkness and the rise of the light.

OOC name :: Name of the Entry:: Not all that glitters is gold Summary or explanation of your entry:: As you can see, this creature is leaping from a book - letters and such as still falling from his mane tail, and wings. When the God's disappeared, part of the reason was to force us all to remember our roots - to stop worrying so much about magic and 'getting' things for our creations, but to simply write them. By including this OOC aspect, I hope to continue to remind us of that. He is moving towards the sun, representing the same sort of symbolism as entries before mine have also alluded to.
But wait. Black eyes? The funny muzzle-repainting? HMMMM.
Just because the God's are back, does not mean that things are peachy in Helovia. There have been murders, suicides, and Invasions. Don't let his golden coat fool you - not all that glitters, is gold.

OOC name :: Brit Name of the Entry:: The Guardians Summary or explanation of your entry:: So, I was trying to combine 'Restoration' and 'Basically, the idea is to represent Helovia as you consider it to be in a "normal" state.' So what is Helovia, in a normal state, to me? I wanted to capture the fact that Helovia is finding light and peace once more, with the Sun God in the brightest portion of the image as the sun peaks over through the trees onto a field of gold wheat and corn. But in the opposite corner is the Moon Goddess, to symbolize the equality between light and dark. Because in Helovia, even during times of relative peace, there is always something brewing on some scale, large or small, because Magic will always be misused. To me, the Gods are always 'there', helping to guide their followers and those that live in the land they created. The butterflies symbolize passive magic, or companions, a gift, and the bonds created that are the Gods imprinted in both types. The Gods are like Hogwarts always present, always there, always vigilant and watchful. Loyal to the land and those who praise them. The sole equine is supposed to symbolize going 'back to basics' as we did during the two SWPs, and is looking towards the viewer peacefully as if unaware of the ghostly images of the Gods.

OOC name :: Poison Name of the Entry:: filaments of gold Summary or explanation of your entry:: This is the full version of my work, and the idea was that the Pegasus is returning both light and goodness to the world, hence the fact that it's glowing, and there is a green flower thingy on it's nose. It's fighting the darkness, I s'pose. There is a cropped version on DA, which I'll link to below, but it doesn't show my idea as well.

For a moment, he stood entranced, mesmerized, as the pale pink sliver grew almost shyly, peeking behind the mountain-peaks of the Frostbreath Steppe. OOC name :: Rayo Name of the Entry :: Begin Again Summary or explanation of your entry :: What started off as a personal piece really echoed the theme of restoration. I have been through several times in life where the world really seems like a dark and depressing place, but I've learned that there is always light at the end of the metaphorical tunnel. This is something that has become really important in my life and how I live. Anyway, as I said, this started out as a personal piece, but I think it really echoes the SWP on Helovia. Our characters' world has been a dark, scary place, and it is time for the sun to rise once more.
