« WHAT »

Come one come all, to the spooky ball!

Look to the battleground and there you'll find, a fighter of every kind.

Blood, gore, and guts oh my, was that someone's head that just flew by?

No matter the fights just begun, and it won't end 'till we have a champion.

There's nothing quite like getting into the spirit of a holiday well known for death and horror than to fashion a tournament where you can beat the blood out of each other ;D Of course Halloween is also well known for its masks (which your characters will be wearing), festivities (which I will be having in watching this) and candy (which you will be getting as a prize for the winner!).

« WHEN »

Sign ups last from September 14 - September 30.
The first round will begin October 1st.

« WHY »

Our GRAVEYARD CHAMPION will receive:
-- a custom piece of art by me in whatever style and extensiveness they desire (as compared to other art in my gallery)
-- this snazzy custom icon to go in their profile!

Our PUMPKIN PLACER will receive:
-- a custom piece of art by me with no back ground and simple character shading.

ALL PARTICIPANTS may place this snazzy icon in their profile!

« HOW »

1. You may enter as many characters as you like.
» Characters must all be wearing a costume, but in the traditional sense that it is a worn item not something that physically or mentally alters their body or cannot be removed/torn from their body. The costume may be as extensive as you desire, but please explain it in detail so all parties understand clearly.

Understand costumes provide hindrance (stepping on your cape) and assistance (distracting your opponent with cape) depending on the realism of the situation, but do not make your character invincible. i.e. your horse in a knight costume cannot have a full suit of metal armor protecting them from all attacks.

2. The rules will follow a typical OOC Spar of 1 vs. 1, using the hybridized dice system, posted in the battlefield. Be sure to get your Stats!
» OOC Spar means your character will earn no VP, will not retain the injuries, and will not retain any memories or experience from the event. You need to stay in character as much as possible and keep with realism, however this allows for more creative reasons your character is fighting (awareness of the tournament) and outlandish environments and weather.

3. All fights will be 3 posts each + closing defense, 800 word limit. Please attack within your first post to quicken the process, it is assumed the two fighters are both present and moving.
» Magic and companion use is unlimited, but unrealistic use will cause loss in realism.

4. Replies must be made within 72 hour intervals during rounds. This means a round will never exceed 21 days. There is no absence allowance or extensions.

5. If the round holds an uneven number of players the lowest score among the winners will not proceed to the next round. If the lowest score is tied a die will be rolled to determine who among those low scores will proceed.

6. As the rounds progress towards the final pair, the difficulty of the weather and environment will increase.

7. I, Blu, will not be participating within the tournament so will be controlling the randomization of pairing fighters in rounds and the start and end of each round. I will judge each finished fight with the hybridized dice rubric, posted in the roll request forum of the same fight thread for viewing.

I will roll most of the dice as I am able, but with the dice roll form anyone not directly involved in the fight may also roll so we can allow the fights to progress as fast as possible. Rolls are done after an attack post from a competitor is made, within the Roll Request Forum. For each set of fighters within a round, please make a thread for die roll requests within the Roll Request board, bumping whenever a new roll is needed :)

By entering the tournament you are agreeing to these rules and conditions. Any concerns or questions please direct them to me.

« WHO »

Round pairing will be listed in a new post to this thread and cross pasted to this section!

* = you would like that character to be tagged whenever a new round starts or your rubric's are posted. You need to set up with your fighting partner preferences for being tagged in every fight post (assume they do not).

+ = your character has their stats. Note if you do not have stats before when the first round starts, you cannot compete.

« ROUND 4 »

3 fighters, 1 fight

-- You can change your costume, or wear the same one from before, but the costume will be whole and new either way, even if it got torn in the last round.

-- You have 120 hours (5 days) to start the first post for round 4. This essentially gives you a 48 hour window to relax between the last round and this one, if you so choose. After the first post it will return to the normal 72 hour time requirement between posts.

-- Attack in your first post, assume your opponent is in motion (pegasus are assumed grounded unless they have stated being in the air). Get creative with the reason why your characters are in these strange settings! The easiest reason may be that your character is aware of the tournament (remember this is an OOC tournament!), but you could also go with the character has simple curiosity and the doors slammed shut and locked behind you.

-- There is no set post order, but all characters must have an opportunity to post once in the rotation before the next set of posts begins. i.e. Character A does not always have to post after Character B, But Characters A, B and C must all post once before any can post again.

WEATHER: A Frostfall midnight (12:00 am). There's a full moon but dense fog that drifts over the moon, at times obscuring its light. The air is cold, your breath visible when you exhale. A light snow from a previous storm remains, scattered in thin, small piles.

1. Arlo vs. Deimos vs. Gaucho
You've found yourselves in an old graveyard full of headstones all throughout, ranging from simple markers to beautifully crafted, statues larger than you. There are some slight slopes as hills run through here, but nothing major. Most of the graves seem to be on the hill tops though and there the tombstones are thickest, where as closer to bottoms of the hills they're very spread out. You're encased within a wrought-iron fence, though it's large enough you can't see end to end. There's something else int he graveyard with you though. With the midnight hour upon the land, zombies have begun to crawl from their graves and shamble about.
At least once each post a zombie attempts to rise from the ground or grab you (either being an already risen one or a hand jutting out from the earth). At least once a zombie is successful in holding you, detaining you for 30 seconds.

In this round a critical miss will cause a zombie to bite you, horrendously infecting whatever area they bit and causing that region to be useless the rest of the fight.

In this round a critical hit will allow to be zombie free for the next post, meaning none manage to stand in your way or are near enough to try and grab you.

« ROUND 3 »

6 fighters, 3 fights

-- You can change your costume, or wear the same one from before, but the costume will be whole and new either way, even if it got torn in the last round.

-- Because this fight will give us an uneven number of winners again, the highest scoring winners will continue to the next round. In the event that only 1 or none are judged, a die will be rolled to determine among the non-judged winners, who will proceed. The reason we will not roll from the completed non-winners as before is because 3 winners is so close to 2, it's better to cut out an extra round and make round 4 the final.

-- You have 120 hours (5 days) to start the first post for round 3.

WEATHER: An Orangemoon Dawn (6:00 am). A cool and crisp morning with dew on the ground and a noncontinuous, light rainstorm.

SETTINGS: Outdoors with an NPC figure attacking each fighter at least twice in the entire fight. The NPC is constantly present and cannot be attacked/killed (it will simply dodge away).

1. Confutatis vs. Arlo
You're in a dense jungle where a lot of foliage covers the ground and vines aplenty await to tangle you up. You've managed to find somewhat of a clearing, where you square up for your fight, but it seems to be home to someone else as well. Jaguar prowl through the brush and try to grab at you, defending their territory and likely, trying to fill their stomachs. A jaguar manages to strike each fighter twice in the fight, which causes a painful and bleeding wound.

2. Delinne vs. Gaucho
You're in a marsh where scraggly trees have grown dense and the bank and the water seem to merge into one entity causing water to rest just at your ankles and the ground to be muddy and full of aquatic weeds just ready to wrap you up. You've found a patch that has some dry regions and more thinned out trees, but it's a popular resting spot for the crocodiles of this place. They are irritated by your intrusion, but more so, they're hungry. A crocodile manages to bite each fighter twice in the fight, which causes a painful and bleeding wound.

3. Deimos vs. Archibald
You're in a thick pine forest where the trees tower above you and many creatures lurk. The trees are mostly all close together, but you've found a small clearing where you square up for battle. Yet it seems to be the nesting site of large spiders, which have strung their webs through plenty of the surrounding trees, awaiting to ensnare prey such as yourself. They're equal to you in size, but with greater speed and piercing mandibles. A spider manages to bite each fighter twice in the fight, which causes a painful and bleeding wound.

« ROUND 2 »

12 fighters, 6 fights

-- You can change your costume, or wear the same one from before, but the costume will be whole and new either way, even if it got torn in the last round.

-- Because this fight will give us an uneven number of winners again, those who finish their fights and have them judged, but lose, will be entered in the die roll for determining who among them may proceed to round 3. This is to reward those who took the time to fully complete their fight, on time, to have a second opportunity while our numbers remain odd. The round 2 fight gives us an even number of victors (6), I was just tired/crazy apparently xP

-- You have 120 hours (5 days) to start the first post for round 2.

WEATHER: A Tallsun dusk (7:30 pm), staying warm, but with a cooler feel as the shade grows longer and a slight breeze stirs.

SETTINGS: Indoors (230 ft x 200 ft, about 1/2 football field) with an NPC figure attacking each fighter at least once in the entire fight. The NPC is constantly present and cannot be attacked/killed (it will simply dodge away).

1. Deimos vs. Crowley
You're inside the laboratory of a mad scientist. You're in the most central room that has a central operating table with some bloody utensils still left out and vials filled with colorful liquids. The floor is a cold, hard concrete that doesn't give, but has traction. Fluorescent lights overhead do not fully light the entire room and one corner flickers. There's a counter along one wall with various fetuses in jars - a doorway leads to a walk in freezer at the left end of the counter. A doorway half way along the opposite, bare wall has unearthly noises coming from it and seems to be the holding pen for those unfortunate souls captured.

The mad scientist hears you as you come in. He sneaks around, trying to get a good moment in where he can inject you with an anesthetic and capture you for experimentation. At least once in the fight the scientist succeeds in injecting each fighter, which causes you to become groggy and slow for 1 minute - he got the dosing wrong/wasn't able to inject it all.

2. Huyana vs. Gaucho
You're inside an abandoned library where a wizard has taken up residence. You're on the first floor in the most central room with a reception desk in the far back wall. On either side large stairs wrap around and lead up to the second floor which is covered in aisles of book shelves. On the first floor the books line just against the walls, though on the left there is a doorway leading to the restrooms and a drinking fountain. Towards the front half of the first floor there is a small set of steps (5) going down that leads to a hat rack and a small standing area by the tall oak doors from which you entered - they will not open now. A chandelier illuminates the room, but many corners remain dark and the air is stale and musty. Most of it is covered in a thin, industrial carpet, over concrete. It is hard and unforgiving, but gives good traction.

The wizard is studying up on the second floor, but hears you enter. Irritated by the distractions you're causing he attempts to fire spells at you in-between trying to ignore you and continue reading. At least once in the fight the wizard's spell hits you, which causes:
- Unicorn: your horn turns into a snake and slithers off, it grows back in 1 minute with mild discomfort.
- Pegasus: your wings turn into crows and fly away, they grow back in 1 minute with mild discomfort.

3. Lace vs. Delinne
You're inside a creaking ship belonging to pirates, getting ready to set sail. You’re on the top deck of the bow, rocking side to side slightly as the waves bob against the dock. The wood flooring is hard, but so full of nails and uneven planks prives good traction - the waves are not tall enough to spill over and create slickness. There’s railings of metal all along the side, including the closed way you entered on-board. Behind you are small (fits 1 horse width) walkways running around either side of the center control of the ship where the captain sits on the second floor looking out and over the bow. The walkways lead to the back of the ship and have stairs on each inside middle section leading to the cargo hold below. If you go down there you probably won’t be able to get back up.

A pirate of the crew notices you. She scurries around, trying to stab you with her cutlass because she wants to skin you and eat you. At least once in the fight the pirate succeeds in stabbing each fighter, which causes you to get a decent slice about 2 inches deep and 3 inches long that will bleed, but eventually scab over.

4. Levi vs. Confutatis
You're inside a pyramid where an ancient pharaoh was buried. You’re in the lower levels where the tomb resides, resting near the back wall of the otherwise large and central room full of gold, trinkets, sand, and food stacked up against the walls. It’s lit with an intricate system of mirrors that guides the light of the setting sun inside, but some corners remain dark. The air is stale and without a breeze. Behind you is an archway leading to stairs that go back to the upper levels, which are mainly smaller passageways for walking around the pyramid. To the left of you in the center part of the wall is a small path leading to more treasure piled up so it nearly fills the chamber.

The mummy is awakened by your presence and rises from his tomb. He stumbles around in his undead rage, unraveling a bit as he does which causes beetles, maggots and scorpions to fall out of his withered, embalmed body. At least once in the fight the mummy succeeds in flinging a scorpion at or near each fighter, which causes you to get a painful sting that will burn so bad you can’t focus for 1 minute.

5. Oxy vs. Arlo
You're inside a pokemon tournament ring where a cruel pokemon trainer was practicing. The stadium is covered with a large roof and the ring is surrounded by tall walls with stands for audience members to sit, though it’s empty. You’re on a hard dirt surface that is unforgiving, but good for traction. In the very center chalked on lines draw out a pokeball shape where the pocket monsters would normally fight. There are tall and wide, closed doors on either end where competitors enter from. Fluorescent lights overhead do not fully light the entire stadium and one corner flickers. There is the smallest breeze coming through ventilation near the roof.

The cruel pokemon trainer is furious for your disruption and sends out his three starter pokemon to attack you. The pokemon scurry around looking for an opportunity to strike without being trampled. Being young and inexperienced they often miss and sometimes squabble with each other.. At least once in the fight a pokemon succeeds in hitting each fighter, which causes you to sustain an injury depending on the pokemon type that has pain and causes a distraction for 1 minute.
- Chespin: vine whip
- Fennekin: ember
- Froakie: bubble

6. d'Artagnan vs. Archibald
You're inside a haunted barn where the ghosts of the farmer and his livestock remain. You’re in the most central part of the barn which has a large set of wooden doors behind you - they’re closed and locked. Some old moldy hay and other rat-eaten feed rests against the very back wall. On either side of you are some stalls with a small tie across their middle where horses or cattle might have stood. In the very middle or the right wall is a narrow (1 horse) hallway that leads into a smaller section of the barn where pens for the sheep and goats stand, as well as a hen house. Various tools rest along the walls like pitchforks, rakes, hoes and even a plow. The floor is a hard dirt that doesn't give, but has traction. Lanterns around the barn light your way, but do not fully chase away all the shadows in the corners and 1 seems close to dying. A slight breeze comes in through the ventilation by the roof.

The ghosts are disturbed by your presence and seek to chase you out. They may knock over some of the tools and open or slam the doors of pens, but mostly they try to get close to you and scare you off. They are unable to physically harm you, but instead pass through you. At least once in the fight a ghost passes through each fighter, which causes you to become incredibly cold and makes it very hard to move or breath for 1 minute.

« ROUND 1 »

32 fighters, 16 fights

WEATHER - It's a nice clear and mildly sunny birdsong day, 10am.
SETTING - A grassy field that goes fetlock high, forgiving and not too wet. Some flowers and trees are around, a creek cuts through in one area near two trees.

1. Confutatis vs. Shajake - Confutatis
2. Aviya vs. Delinne - Delinne

With the Graveyard Championship over for 2013, I am planning a 2014 one, as well as a companion battle championship early next year!
We had a few hiccups along the way on this one, and I appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation with that. However I know we can improve and hopefully avoid any issues for the future events, so please give me your thoughts and ideas, whether you participated or not!

I'm putting down some guideline questions, so feel free to answer them all, some, or none :3

Did you enjoy the Graveyard Championship?
Would you want to have more battle championships like this in the future/would you enter this again?
What was your favorite part?
What was your least favorite part?
If you did/didn't participate, why?

Was this event too long?
Were sign ups too long/short?
Was this event too strict?
Did you like and/or use the countdown clocks?
How did you feel about the costume aspect?
How did you feel about the settings?

What would you propose be different next time so we always have an even number or fighters and rounds? Or did you like the way that issue was handled in this event?
The way this event ran:
- can enter as many characters as you want, 1 character is submitted as extra if needed if we start with an odd number of fighters.
- to keep rounds even as we progress those who completed their fights, but lost, can be added into a die roll to possibly advance into the next round.
- When we ended with 3 fighters we had a 3-way fight.

*I really want to avoid ideas that make some people fight more or less than others to keep the fighters/rounds in even amounts.

Did you enjoy the Graveyard Championship? Yes!!!!
Would you want to have more battle championships like this in the future/would you enter this again? Of course :)
What was your favorite part? Being randomly matched with a spar partner, letting me interact with people I would not normally get to interact with.
What was your least favorite part?

Was this event too long? No! I was surprised that it ended this quickly, to be honest.
Were sign ups too long/short? It was about right to just slightly long.
Did you like and/or use the countdown clocks? Loved them, used them, thank you!
How did you feel about the costume aspect? It give a lot of room for muse and writing about my character in a new and exciting way.
How did you feel about the settings? Creativity to the max! I love it! I loved the OOC aspect of it, because the characters could really be thrown into new environments that made no sense for them to be in. Having them then react to that environment was a great way to learn about your character and how they might act in different situations.

What would you propose be different next time so we always have an even number or fighters and rounds? Or did you like the way that issue was handled in this event? I liked that it was inclusive and all three got a chance to participate. I think the dropped character might have affected the outcome of the final battle, as I think Arlo attacked one character and not the other, giving extra damage to just one character, but I'm not really sure how this could have been avoided, other than just perhaps negating that damage come scoring time. Otherwise, I think the three-way fight was a really awesome way to fairly and creatively solve the problem.

Did you enjoy the Graveyard Championship?: I really like any tournament!
Would you want to have more battle championships like this in the future/would you enter this again?: Definitely!
What was your favorite part?: Getting to giggle at the outrageous outfits everyone showed up in. :'3
What was your least favorite part?: That I missed my deadline by like... two hours. But that was all my bad. ;D
If you did/didn't participate, why?: I looooove the idea of dressing one's character up like a derp and dropping them into really sinister atmospheres; the irony of a ludicrously dressed horse in the Land of Death just... gets me giggling.

Was this event too long?: I'm actually really pleased with the time frame for this one! I'd say start sign ups earlier next year, however, around a month and a half in advance, and go ahead and get the spars going so that it ends around the end of November rather than middle of December.
Were sign ups too long/short?: I think the sign ups were of a good time frame. :D
Was this event too strict?: Hecks no.
Did you like and/or use the countdown clocks?: Brilliant idea!
How did you feel about the costume aspect?: If they ever went away, I would come find you and eat your heart, Blu. ;D
How did you feel about the settings?: Equally as important as the outfits and the ones this year were wonderful. :3

What would you propose be different next time so we always have an even number or fighters and rounds? Or did you like the way that issue was handled in this event?: I enjoy the way this event's final round was played out and feel that it most fairly gave them all a chance to win.

Maybe next year we can have "boss" characters which the final fighters battle? :'D Like a giant spider, a basilisk, Dracula, or the headless horseman. The one who scores the highest on their spoofy spooky boss battle wins the tourney!
Magic/assault allowed to be used on Illynx at any time, in so far as it does not kill or seriously maim her without my permission.
