Like a thunderous drum, the four columns beneath him moved in a eerie rhythm as Haidar approached the sandy area. The temperature had gotten considerably warmer from the Threshold and Haidar was more comfortable with this.

His large grey form heaved forward, slowly but surely. His tail flickered back and forth and his large ears flapped. His long trunk swayed with his footsteps, curled so as to not touch the ground. The winged-zebra had directed him here in this direction and he had turned down the young horned-zebra.

This place... the Dragon's Throat. The sun was shining brightly and the sands had a certain feel to them that one place in his home possessed. He felt more at ease than he had in that place of the foreign vegetation. He was still angry... still mad at what his mother had done. He would now be considered a coward for running from battle, he should have died in it!

Haidar relayed these thoughts... he relayed his approach... he relayed it all in his head. And just as before, his temper flared again. Haidar didn't care whom he would encounter. Just the fact that he was stuck here with the shame of a coward. No more. He would prove himself and he would work his way back to his former glory he had used to possess.

Well that's something Gaucho usually doesn't see: someone bigger than he was. Of course there had been Arch-ee-balt, but that was only a few inches. This creature, was easily 9 feet taller. Still, Gaucho was not overly concerned - in the land he had come from there were creatures similar and yet...not quite. The land, he had referred to it as A-sh-e-ah here, had elephants similar to this one - though the ones he knew were not quite so large, and often were adorned with jewels and robes. From his vantage point in the skies, he scanned the area for others, and found it odd that there were none. Usually, those non-winged creatures were escorted by one of his own. How had this giant come to know of the Throat?

With a puzzled expression, Gaucho's wings lithely narrowed to his sides, as he dove towards the red sands. Even in a free-fall, the air that kissed his face was warm and humid, and only increased the sweat that was gleaming on his dark flanks. Gaucho landed with an uncanny elegance for such a primitive creature, upon the sands a few feet ahead of lumbering giant. His antlered skull was partially pulled backwards, as his gaze rose to seek out that of the elephant. Was this how Soh felt, when she looked at him? Gaucho could not remember the last time he had to look up when face to face with anyone. "I Gaucho. This is Dragon's Throat." He offered, his voice rich but sounding simple in speech. While he had worked on this language since coming to Helovia, the sounds were still foreign to him - so unlike his own native tongue. Yet even so, his name and "Dragon's Throat" rolled off of his tongue easily enough.

They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream

Dragon's Throat Pupil

Something so enormous and totally different could not pass through the unfinished wall surrounding the desert territory without someone noticing. From a distance the giant grey elephant resembled a hulking mass of granite, a moving mountain perhaps she mused with wide, cautiously observant eyes fixed upon him. Africa had heard only tales about the creatures, learned from her dream-weaver mother about the length and capacity of their phenomenal memories and considerable size- but like many of the fairy-tale creatures which had filled those stories, the elephant had been pushed by fresh memories into the far periphery of her mind.

The sand seemed to cushion his tread; the weight above which she had immediately presumed would shake any earth it fell upon. To either side of his unusually long face, great sails flapped casually, like flaccid wings that offered no lift. The young mare watched him with expanding curiosity and found her knees pushing forward in response, directing her obliging body in the direction of the alien visitor.

The day was warm- naturally overbearing heat as the sun shed tirelessly above, and sweat oozed across Africa's dappled coat. Around her moving figure, the drifting shadow of her friend maintained vigil, her constant companion through the turning pages of her new life. Each time is circled in front of her, she smiled, filled with indescribable affection for the avian guardian.

White stockinged legs stiffened as she drew to a halt in the hulking animal's path, and with a tilted face she absorbed him, pale yellow eyes unable to recoil their fascination. Already the antlered bay leader of the land had swept down upon the elephant and mostly Africa was relieved to have him present. "Hi Gaucho." She offered quickly as she casually closed the remaining distance between, unsure still if the visitor was one of the elusive natives which often passed through the brutal desert, or a true guest- seeking counsel here with her kin. "I am Africa, the Throat's Oracle." She added with a bright smile after Gaucho, an air of expectation lingered as her words faded into the haze of rippling heat around them; but she didn't want to probe, to set the creature offside if he wished not to be bothered.

take away the pain inflicted on me, the hunger you're letting me feed
There are still creatures in this world to cause great surprise and delight; as one figured out by venturing through this mess of webs we called ‘life’, you never stopped learning. Never stopped growing, and as such when a rather large creature began to traverses the landscape, that said creature would gather attention. A lot of attention actually. I came up upon a familiarly small group gathered around a...what was it? My eyes widened as patched limbs drew me closer and said foreigner got bigger, Fina called out from overhead. Her shrieking vocals stretched the empty distance. Feet quickened out of sudden anxiety, the armored collar around my chest clanged against the flesh it was lashed snuggly against. A confused expression was replaced by one of concern; who was this creature and why had it come?

Compared to this overwhelming mountain of a beast, I was nothing but a dwarf. Distance closed, and soon my frame had managed to slide in beside comrades just in time to catch the tail end of their greeting; offering the stranger a smile I added kindly, “Aye welcome.” Guacho didn’t appear overly worried about the situation, and neither did Africa. Their posture soothed a little of the lingering tension I’d naturally felt when having first saw this…whatever it was. Ears strained forward, my tail slide against flanks with quick slaps, “What brings ye to Dragon’s Throat?” Golden feathers slipped aside, allowing hot air to pass between ivories and flesh, which successfully cooled the drops of perspiration that had begun to cake up along my hide. With its large ears and mighty legs; this grey mass was either the ugliest horse I’d ever witnessed, or the mightiest of our kind.

Haidar looked to the skies as another winged-zebra, like Levi from the Threshold, touched down in front of him. Haidar had never seen such creatures and the sight was quite foreign to his eyes. He had seen no more horned-zebras... yes he had indeed remembered Sacre. He had remembered practically everything... afterall, he was indeed an elephant.

Haidar lifted his massive grey head and curled his trunk into an organized roll. He whipped his tail and flapped his ears once more and he then fell into an eerie spell of silence as he looked at each one of them as they spoke. His amber eyes looked to each one of them.

The one with the bone in his nose reminded him closely of someone from his past but he showed no sign of this. His speech... was not like the others. It closer resembled towards Haidar's poor speech patterns as well. His name was Gaucho and as Haidar looked, the bony-winged-zebra had colorful painted markings on him. He was not afraid like others from here. Haidar remained silent.

The next one was also a winged-zebra. But, this female had one wing. Haidar's tiny beady amber eyes lingered on the apparently empty slot, wondering whether the other one had been ripped off or whether the young female had been born with such a feature. Her name was Africa. She was the Oracle of this place, the Dragon's Throat. She was like a seer? Communicated with the dead? Gods? Haidar's expression changed slightly but went ever so slightly back to normal he would hold all questions to the end.

The next to arrive was once more a winged-zebra. Three winged-zebras. No horned-zebras. No elephant army.

Haidar remained silent and thought the black and white male in front of him resembled a zebra slightly in color, it was a completely different pattern. And he had gold on his wings. A screech from a fireball above him erupted the air and pierced Haidar's sensitive ears. Instantly, his ears went back and he lifted his trunk to the sky with a loud trumpet of his own erupting into the air like thunder. The grey column beneath his front right stomped once but when it stopped, Haidar shook his head and looked at them all once more.

His amber eyes rested on the black and white paint again, his ears still ringing slightly and his heart rate beginning to slow down. "Fireball hurt my ears. Creature of Dragon's Throat?" Haidar shook his head and curled his trunk only to uncurl it once more and begin speaking in his deep and thunderous voice. He eyed the Fireball, taking a disliking to the fiery creature. "Levi send me from Threshold."

Haidar stopped speaking with a large breath and then looked at them all once more. "Name is Haidar. General from Jagondar. Far away from here. I am elephant." Haidar stopped speaking and flapped his ears, sending a breeze of wind down his large grey body. The mud along it acted much like a sunscreen for the beast.

Gaucho did not indicate any sort of camaraderie or delight at meeting another who displayed the same awkward speech patterns as he. The dun did not view his speech as irregular, so seeing it in another did not immediately strike him as odd, or interesting. Yet as the creature mentioned Jagondar, his stormy gaze immediately brightened with recognition. His antlered brow bobbed, causing Mara to stir and hiss slightly. In his home world, a large vessel had come from far away - across the deadly sea. In it, it contained an elephant similar to Haidar, and different from those he knew. They were clearly of the same species - for they possessed large ears, tusks, similar skin and what not, only the creature from the vessel was far larger than any he had encountered before. They had wanted to breed this large one, with the smaller elephants that naturally populated the area, for purposes of war. Let's say...it didn't go over very well.

"Jagondar." Gaucho repeated with another nod. "Gaucho heard of it - far across the ocean from where Gaucho come from, come an el-ee-fant like you. Come to mate with smaller a-sh-ee-ah elephants. He say he from Jagondar."

Gaucho's dark tail swished against his hocks, as he regarded the creature with a brotherly respect. The duties of a General spanned across all species, and it was a title that the dun could respect, even in a land like Helovia, so different from the worlds that he, and presumably Haidar had come from. Narrowing his steely gaze, Gaucho looked at the creases and wrinkles that lined the elephants thick hide. His gaze moved to the creature's tusks, as he grunted. "How old, Haidar?" Gaucho asked rather pointedly. It was a rather odd question, wasn't it?

Dragon's Throat Oracle

With the two most significant, long standing personalities of the Throat arrived on scene and in attendance, Africa was more than happy to sink into a humble haze of quiet, set slightly back upon coiled haunches beside the two stallions. The thoughtful young Oracle watched in silent intrigue the massive hulk of animal before them; without fur, wrinkled and perched upon legs resembling thick wood trunks. Africa did not consider his tusks to be unusual really, since venturing to Helovia a year ago, she had encountered many with the same sort of facial disfigurement- horns and such, growing on heads. The elephant was a fascinating creature to behold, and she made no secret of her attraction, blinking pale yellow eyes roving easily across the unusual curve of its body, tracing the bunched curl of its long, grooved nose; ears pricked towards the casual slap of leaf-like, flaccid ears.

Suddenly there was a splitting cry above and Africa's bright eyes snapped towards it, then again quickly to the elephant whose trunk was uncoiled and lifted high above all of their heads. A blast of noise was thrust into the atmosphere like nothing the young grey had before encountered, and she staggered backwards, startled. Within her breast, the young Pegasus' heart was thundering, both thrilled and daunted by the spectacle of this unorthodox nomad. She passed a sidewards glance to Gaucho, and still further towards Midas, perhaps for some form of reassurance- she was a gentle soul, passive and not wildly confident.

The elephant's tiny tawny eyes (poorly proportioned at first glance compared to his impressive size) settled across the dwarfed figure of Midas, and he spoke, his voice booming through the otherwise tranquil desert. He was certainly louder than any of their kin, she thought, listening with semi-reclined ears, and as he told them his reason for coming and a very brief outline of his identity, Africa felt the rigidity which had formed throughout her frame decline. Gaucho's posture lifted almost immediately and the one-winged mare turned her face towards him, eyes sparkling at the prospect of perhaps learning something about both characters.

take away the pain inflicted on me, the hunger you're letting me feed
Fina found the piercing screech of yonder elephant to be both threatening and slightly disturbing, (it was likely that the whole of Dragon’s Throat would hear his cry.) Said grey brute could bugle loud enough to wake our ancestors. Despite being set toward unease my brave little companion continued to circle overhead, staring narrowly down at the thundering beast with rising impatience. “He big, slow,” she hissed. I whispered a plea for silence through our bond, with a begrudging shrug she actually took heed.

“Fireball hurt my ears. Creature of Dragon’s Throat?”

He was reference was amusing, as a result my forced smile of understanding came a little easier, “Aye. She is my soul bond; a Companion,” words came slowly, unbendingly soft but stern enough to be heard clearly by his oversized ears. There wasn’t much to say when it came to a Phoenix’s temper—those that met Fina either loved her blazing personality, or they despised it as equally as she despised them. “She is called Fina, and I am Midas.”

Through the rumbling vocals I caught a name and a title of some distant landscape he used to reside upon. Haidar. Levi had brought us an interesting brother—one that might end up becoming a boon. I didn’t know if Guacho had thought of the possibilities in having a one ton mountain in battle; but the idea rampaged my mind for its short-lived moments. Guacho however, did seem enthused with this stranger; he knew their land name and even seemed to acknowledge a small snippet of their history. Africa remained silent, I cast my curious eyes toward hers. Cranium nodded ever so slightly, a quiet omission that all would be well. When the conversation had died down I ventured a question that was intended to further at his purpose upon the sand, “Ye desires to join our ranks?”
