Fight the darkness,
It lives inside your heart,
It's not your fault my dear son,
It is simply your past.

Only the faintest of movements gave her away, a shadow in the evening in the corner of his eye paired with the sudden feeling that he was no longer alone where he stood on the beach. Mesec’s head turned away from the sky to look toward the approaching figure and his peaceful expression faded easily into a smile. Ampere. She did not seem to have noticed him standing as he was on the beach ahead of her, not yet anyway, and though he opened his mouth to call out to her he paused. Instead, he granted himself a moment just to watch her in the dimming light. He hadn’t seen her this calm in a long time - he couldn’t even remember when he might have. There was always some reason to move, whether they were playing and racing in the sky, or whether she was alive with the anger he had seen her sparking with too often lately.

He didn’t, couldn’t, know that it wasn’t that she was calm but that she had her own inner turmoil to wrestle with. There was a brief consideration of just leaving her alone, not interrupting her walk or her thoughts, but if he moved she’d surely notice - and if he didn’t, she’d collide with him eventually. “Good evening, Ampere.” His voice was soft, a friendly - if a little formal - greeting that he extended through the still night as he took a step toward her. He had no idea where they stood - whether Lucius still formed a rift between them. It hadn’t seemed like she was overly angry with him still when they had talked at the borders with Najya but that did not mean all had been forgiven.

Mesec may be dealing with his own cocktail of happiness and confusion at the sight of his friend but angry curses rushed through his bond with the zephyr as his present company became known. Luckily, Lucius was further down the beach and the physical distance between them made it easier for Mesec to ignore any comments - not wanting them to

He was tired of second guessing himself when they met, tired of not knowing how to greet her because his instincts were at war with his insecurities. Always the desire to move toward her, to touch her, but he only sent words into the space between them - his silver eyes watching her for a reaction, waiting to see how he would be greeted today. With anger? Friendliness? He had been flat out ignored back at the Isles but that had been understandable, she had bigger things to think about and he had not belonged in the family pocket there. There was an uncomfortable shift in his stance as he recalled the pang of jealousy he felt, but the memory reminded him of something he wanted to ask. “How’s Zero? I haven’t seen him since after the fight with the tiger.” They had never spoken about the colt but any uncertainty Mesec had about his young friend's mother had been quickly dissolved in the aftermath of the battle with the Earth God.
