Life. It stirred inside the Sultana yet unknown and unseen but already altering her normal patterns of behavior. She had never been the queen of serene, but they past few days had seen a new level of restlessness that not even the heat of Tallsun could drain out of her. In the wake of the Sun God’s latest appearance in the Flats patrols froth the Throat stretching east had near doubled, and Meg was not one to leave such work in the hands of her warriors, capable as they were, and so had set out for her turn. Spark, Moon, and Sun had all appeared in new lands with monsters in tow and now it seemed Helovia held its breath for Earth’s return.
The threshold way always worth a visit, if anything or anyone entered Helovia it would be through these parts, so Megaera picked her way through the forested pass. As much as her body was determined to keep her on the move, Meg was in a remarkably good mood so when a cluster of voices reached her ears she perked up, ears and eyes alert and moved towards the sounds. The cluster of four that had congregated by a winding creek had three bodies she’d seen before but not well known. Always such strange fellows to be found in the Threshold she thought with an amused smile, and then moved forward overhearing a comment about wings in the Edge. “Wings would be wasted in the Edge, far too many trees (at least for my taste)”
She strode forward with a confident gait and sent a general nod of greeting to all before turning eyes on the dark mare. She had a bit of the warrior’s look about her, lean and muscled and decorated in red; as per usual Meg had a twinge of envy for her height. “If you are looking for a herdland the Throat might be more to your liking. It’s a bit warm in the south, but we’ve got plenty of open sky above the dunes. Of course, I am heartily biased. I am Megaera, Sultana of Dragon’s Throat.”
Her confident smile faded slightly when she looked to the paint stallion. Not so long ago he had healed her and two more of her family but by the black tar marring his face signaled that he himself had not escaped the disease’s grip. “I am sorry to see you in such a state Miykael. If The Throat’s physicians can be of help, you would be most welcome.” She glanced worriedly at the little alabaster filly. “You as well, little one, if none closer can be found.” She looked at the Healer again, well aware of the state his healing had cost him in the meadow and not wanting to demand more than he might offer for she had no power to command on of the Falls.
