Zero didn't stop to question the bird that talked in his best friend's voice. He followed her eagerly, but quietly, letting his questions bubble and fester and take hold. Where were they going? Why did they need to hide? Who were the them- did this land have sentries, or demons, or maybe it was only the birds? Zero hadn't seen anyone yet, but that didn't mean they hadn't seen him. Maybe he would get in trouble for being here after all, and Isopia was trying to save him from a dismal and desolate fate at the hooves of vengeful warlords who would seethe at seeing him, the son of a rival Gladiator, within their woods. Or maybe Iso was leading him to them, taking him to her leaders to await judgment-
But this seemed very, very unlikely. Iso had never led him astray before, and Zero had no doubt that wherever they were going, it would be awesome.
He stumbled as he ran, trying to keep up with his two winged guides while trapped on unfamiliar ground. A dragon! How cool was that? Zero had never seen a dragon, not a real one up close, and curiosity was clawing desperately at the underside of his brain. Was this what had been in the egg? Was it Iso's companion now? Was Iso happy to have a companion? Was the companion happy to have an Iso? And most importantly, perhaps- did the dragon have a name?
His wing jostled painfully against his side as he ran, but the boy did not let himself slow. He hoped they were nearing their destination. He was beginning to think she wasn't mad at him, which was a good thing. He did not particularly want her to be mad at him, though he did still want to talk to her- talk about the fight, and the aftermath, and a lot of things he couldn't talk to Ma about but needed to say to someone.
After all the questions, though, which threatened to spill from his lips like so many marbles, one after another (he knew that when he started he could not stop).
