Being as unwilling as he was to turn his back to the Labyrinth, he accepted that the other warrior would approach from behind. Perhaps it would be one of the stealthy bastards and he wouldn't even know until they were upon him. Someone had probably mentioned who he'd be expecting, but it wasn't like he'd recognized the name or that he would bother to remember it. He kept one ear tipped back, listening intently to every sound.

The trees loomed before him, a barrier he had yet to cross, somehow holding onto the dark shadows that lurked in the depths. It was like the forest was waving a giant middle finger to the mid-morning sunlight that tried its best to filter through all the foliage. Perhaps to him as well. Did he really want to leave the warmth that touched his back for that?

He told himself that he was prepared for the worst, but hoped that the worst would at least hold off until back up arrived. But the world of Helovia could never be praised for its sense of timing or kindness to its subjects.

The forest spat out its worst in the form of a scruffy yellow unicorn, strutting around like he was all that. He paused and cast his eyes skyward like the answers might fall onto his head. That would simplify things, for he certainly had no shortage of questions. What sort of demon dressed in the tattered remains of other animals? Was it supposed to frighten him? He didn't feel quite afraid as he did perplexed. When he thought of some beast crawling out of the depths of that forest he pictured a lot of excess hair and horns and possibly some impressive teeth. He couldn't possibly meet his end from a creature that smiled at him like that.

His brain spun like tires in mud trying to make sense of it, of any of it. But the unicorn was speaking to him then, and he forced himself to pay attention and stop gaping like an idiot.

"I'm a warrior for the Hidden Falls," he said, consciously avoiding his name. His title would mean more to the creature, he was certain. The second question was harder. Would it be better to admit he was alone out here, but was expecting company in the form of a much older, seasoned warrior? Or should he say that the warrior was merely around the bend, able to come to Ezital's aid if he wished? He shouldn't need aid, being a warrior himself, but the fact of the unicorn's superior age and height couldn't be ignored. He supposed that should it become necessary, he could outrun the creature.

"I'm waiting for someone," he said cautiously. Simple, no unnecessary details. His words could imply anything he wished, depending on how they were received. Ezital watched the stallion's reaction carefully. It would help him to decide what to do next.
