a new world, material without being real,

where poor ghosts, breathing dreams like air, drifted fortuitously about

The little flower felt perfectly at home by the seaside. The day appeared pleasant. The salty breeze clawed delicately at tendrils of her dark mane and at the clumps of heleniums and chrysanthemums blossoming in her hair that day. The sea lapped playfully at her fetlocks, urging her ever closer to its tides. For Agnodice, nothing felt more ideal than a tranquil day spent by the beach.

But when has the doctor ever been known to have such a day?

A blaring clamor from down the beach startles the dainty maiden. Her ears prick, her eyes widen suddenly, and her skin feels as though it's ready to leap from her skeleton. This state is brief, however. She regains her composure rapidly, tilting her head curiously in the direction of the ruckus, still unsure if she wanted to see what awaited farther down.

Hero takes initiative, leaping from her withers with a trill, promising silently that he would return in a moment. He comes upon the strangest scene. A large unicorn stallion flailed in the sapphire shallows while a tiny, four legged gray thing with a really long nose and really big ears watching him. Hero swooped lower, calling worriedly in a rough, squawking, reptilian vibrato to the stallion's weird companion, doing his best to communicate to it that he would get help.

The little black cries out urgently to his bonded, who responds immediately. The images he sends her are of only the stallion's weird companion, who she identifies for him as an elephant. The buckskin mare arrives swiftly with a tangled mane full of flowers, bright, but puzzled, eyes, and her picnic basket full of herbs resting lightly in her jaws. She is surprised by the sight, and even more surprised to find that she recognizes the behemoth of a stallion floundering before her.

She dares not get too close, for even the kindest of creatures can turn deadly when panicked. She furrows her brow as she leans closer, for spark popped violently out of his mane. Sparkweed. The maiden flicks her leonine tail, signaling her bonded to come closer. He does, taking her basket from her ebony lips and setting it down gently on her back, preparing to retrieve whatever she needs.

"Try to stay still," Agnodice advises stoically, for this is a situation she is not unaccustomed to. Her childhood was spent constantly by the sea. Some of her earliest memories were knees bloodied by coral, cheeks burned by jellyfish, and her family's doctor remedies spread thoroughly over salty wounds. But first, she pauses. "I can help you, if you will allow," the words roll rapidly off her tongue, her eyes piercing as she understood the situation was painful, but to give help when unwanted wasn't always wise.
