For a moment, the amulet was in free fall. It had slipped from the bird's grasp as it sought to keep ahead of the winged mare, and it squawked in momentaneous panic. It swooped down abruptly and clutched it within its beak once again moments before it hit the frozen loam. From the corner of its eye it watched as the pegasus continued her pursuit.

This mare was a worthy opponent, decided Columba. It was pleasantly surprised that the pegasus managed to replicate its aerial maneuver, and it would seem that Aryel had managed to impress the avian constellation. It halted in mid air as the mare caught up, the amulet dangling from its beak like a pendulum, swaying modestly in the breeze.

It alighted upon the snow-powdered terrain and waited for the mare to do the same, watching curiously as alabaster dust began to careen slowly through the air.
