The trees were thick together- too thick together. The elephant generally avoided this part of the Threshold. It had been near where he, himself, had entered Helovia. He remembered that day well— being stuck between two trees. It had been an anticlimactic entrance, after so many months of journeying (of fleeing) to get here. But it had been worth it. So very worth it. So he held a fondness for these thick trees. Despite the annoyance and hinderance they brought to his gargantuan form. He tried to stick to the deer paths. But, truly, what’s a deer path to an elephant? Rather useless. Ears twitch, did he hear voices? A young, high-pitched one? He recognized that voice, he had heard it before in the Threshold. While greeting a rather beautiful mare. Erthe, had her name been? Full of pert curiosity. He crashed (he attempted to walk normally, but failed miserably as he broke branches with his sides and vines with his massive horn) down the very trails the mare had chosen. It was rather cramped, and somewhat awkward, especially given that Tembovu had caught only the dark, winged mare’s part of the conversation. However, a rich and deep chuckle escaped him as he peered over the mare to see Erthe not far behind in the clearing. Obviously the little spitfire was still full of lively attitude, given the tall, athletic mare’s obvious annoyance with the hybrid foal. He halted, his breadth taking up the majority of the trail. Lowering his head, so as not to tower so high over the shiny raven winged mare, he smiled. Though it was a relief to not have to lower his head so much, for the woman was tall. And rather muscular, sinew stretching beneath the glistening hide and sienna highlights. They nearly matched the heat of Tallsun— heat he welcomed. “Hello there. I take it you’ve already met Erthe’s charms,” he chuckled, bobbing his loosely spiraled horn in greeting. Raising his voice he called to the foal, “Hello, little one. You’ve lost your mother? You think to find her in the Threshold?” His deep rumbling voice questioned the foal. He returned his deep blue gaze to the raven-winged woman, “I am Tembovu, of the World’s Edge. Welcome to Helovia. You seem to have found the thickest trees of the Threshold to enter,” he grinned lopsidedly, shifting his weight as the branches creaked against him. “Are you looking for herdlands? Or were you just intent on finding this place?” |
