The desert nights were brittle and cold, which meant that the coming of the sun offered the only remorse from the chill of Frostfall. It had risen high in the afternoon sky after slipping over the cliff that shelved the Dragon’s Throat up against the violence of the ocean’s tide. To Essetia, it was less forgiving than the land by the sea, but of course, the Edge was also shielded from the bitter waves by a drop that outshone too many others throughout Helovia. As the spy wandered the vast borders of her home, she occasionally cast a dubious glare out across the blue of the ocean and imagined how strangers chose to see such a sight. Did it intimidate them as it had her? Or was it just another beautiful concept that they chose to surpass while on their way to lives outside of her home? Was the Dragon’s Throat just another mystery that went without answers?

Beneath the very same sun that turned aggressive under summer’s influence, Essetia’s rich coat shone a bright and unequalled red. Somehow the deep bay of her father’s genetics couldn’t surmount to the intensity of the southern sunlight, and it made Essetia feel more a part of a new and engaging future that overlooked the darkness of her past. She’d grown thick on desert fruits and the tall grasses shooting up in the Throat’s heart- a true rival toward her own former glories. She didn’t miss the anxious thoughts of dread and worry that had once plagued her after the invasion of the Falls. Instead, she felt strong… and somehow at peace. Her brethren had done that for her and they were slowly (but surely) becoming an integral part to her recovery.

As Essetia and her wolf meandered the worn track around the parameter of the island, she also imagined the many warriors walking the very same path daily. She’d never seen such an adamant bunch of soldiers and had never felt more secure within their stronghold, even if she often risked both tongue and limb when taunting them. Yet, there were others such as Ampere that had more than gained her respect through simple conversation alone. At times she did question whether or not it was respect or admiration, but either way, she sought to please them through whatever task they deemed worthy.

As if by chance, the spy’s musings were interrupted by a glint of starlight. It took her a moment to understand where and how such a fluttering of beauty managed to pierce through the brightness of the afternoon sun, but upon resting a curious gaze on the creature perched outside her borders, Essetia paused to deliberate. Was the Pegasus a friend or a foe? Did it matter to her? For a moment, she was content to merely stare before finally pressing onwards toward the bridge that would ultimately bring them together. The key that Ghost had given her felt heavy against her neck and, when she was near enough to entreat the bridge to fall to formation, she crossed quickly without the former fascination she possessed for its magical properties. Romul too fell to heel alongside her and Essetia greeted the other mare with a low, inquisitive rumble. “What brings you to the south my friend?”
