Aryel looked up in surprise as a beautiful call caught her attention. "Hello, little cousin." she said to the bird, unconsciously using the term many members of her home herd had used to refer to birds. Seeming to be made of light itself, she watched as the bird spread it's wings and glided down to rest on her back. Head craned over her shoulder, she couldn't help but admire the creature. "What are you?" she wondered aloud. It certainly didn't look like any bird she had seen before.
In response, the bird took flight again, perching on another branch with an expectant air. "Do you want me to follow you?" asked Aryel, tilting her head. She took a step forward, then stopped in one of her rare moments when she considered before she acted. What if it was a trap, and this bird was some sort of malign spirit?
No, that was ridiculous. Besides, she was strong (for a horse not even fifteen hands) and fast. If there was danger, she would be ready. Adventure was beckoning! Aryel kicked up her heels and galloped to the bird's perch, following it.
