Vayu is a pale golden palomino with three white legs and a sock on his right hind. He sports blanket appaloosa patterning on his rump, stretching a bit down his back and onto his flanks. His mane and tail are white, and so are the bottoms of his wings, save for the primaries, which are gold. The tops of his wings are bronze near the muscle, the feathers growing lighter as they approach the golden primaries. Vayu's forehead is marked with a whirlwind-shaped blaze, that weaves down his face, trailing off in his left nostril. His eyes are most unusual, amber on top and blue on the bottom. He is a thoroughbred in build, fifteen . three hands tall and designed for agility rather than strength. His wings are enormously long, and he can fly at incredible speeds. Vayu chases the wind and someday hopes to out fly it.

Vayu was born in a land not too far from Helovia, the fifth son of a golden mare named Sky and the herd leader, Fritz. A year after Vayu, Sky finally gave birth to a... well, they all thought Tain was a filly. But that is a different story.
Vayu knew only three of his five siblings, the other two having left the roost already, as was customary for colts in this herd. He was the most easygoing of Sky's children, a flirt from day one with no great ambition in life, just a desire to have fun. At the ate of three, Vayu too left his father's herd, bidding his mother and sister goodbye and venturing out to seek his fortune.
After a year of mishaps and adventures, Vayu found himself in Helovia, where he met and made friends with the stallion Ra. Ra showed him how to quest for magic at the Veins of the Gods, and Vayu showed Ra how to relax... or tried. Time passed. Vayu fathered some children he has since lost track of, had some adventures he has largely forgotten, and in the silence after the war, sought out his friend Ra, helping his friend build up Dragon's Throat and the Order of the Sun, despite being skeptical about the purpose of the latter one.

o. Confused, he travels to the Deep Forest. He finds a bat seeking a companion for a pup.
