Rei is a black leopard pegasus. She has heavily feathered wings. Her right wing is solid black while the left wing is mixed black and white. Her mane and tail are white. At the base of her tail there are a few black and white mottled feathers. Rei's ears have down type feathers combined into the tufts of hair at her ears. One back hoof is black and the rest are striped. Resembling a mask across her face there is a cluster of spots going from one side of her jaw to the other side. Rei has a petite build. Her head is a quarter horse type with a pronounced rounded jaw. Her neck is moderately thick. She works to keep a well groomed appearance.

Rei is small but makes up for what she lacks in size with the passion that she pours into everything that she believes in. She loves to meet others and collect their stories, she believes that everything and everyone has something that makes them interesting. She is an optimist and a dreamer. Her pride is deeply rooted in her wings and values her ability to fly over all things.

Rei came from the Lytninia. It was a kingdom filled purely of the pegasi. In Lytninia the pegasi were divided into classes. Pure whites were the highest class, solid colors were middle class, and those with spots were the lowest class. It was said that one should be as a painting, with sure steady strokes. A white was like a blank canvas filled with potential, a solid was one where the artist had a clear image in mind and swept the brush confidently, while a spotted was like a painting where the artist was shaky handed and fickle.

Her father, Herlov, was a few spot stallion. With only a few visible spots he was permitted to work as a guard to a high ranking filly, Leridana. The pay for such an important job was much better than his previous work in the fields. The stallion's previous back breaking work had made him durable and strong, he was able to climb the ranks much quicker than the other guards who were typically Solids.

Herlov grew close to the family of the glinting black filly that he guarded. Not only did he look after Leridana's safety but he also sparred with the family's young son teaching him to fight. There had been many nights he had been invited to dinner with the group. He and Leridana had grown inseparable, making his job easy. There were many inside jokes that the two shared, when Herlov saw her getting stressed he would pretend to stretch his wings gently touching her, frivolous chats turned into late night debates with her standing at her door whispering to him on the other side. The two fell in love and Leridana became pregnant with his foal. After the initial panic the two shared they decided to keep it secret for as long as possible then once the foal was born they decided they would paint it with coal black paint in order to give it a chance at a better life.

Her father was around for 4 years of Rei's life. He ingrained much of his character into the filly. He and her mother were caught in the garden together discussing the possibility of running to a land that her father had heard talk of. Exhausted with keeping everything a secret Herlov had a mental breakdown and snapped. He refused to deny his relationship with Leridana and he pulled Rei from her mother's side and wiped the black paint that her mother carefully applied to her daughter every morning.

Her father had then been banished from Lytninia, with only the fondness that Leridana's influential family had for him and her agreement to accept a public announcement of a pairing to another stallion keeping him from being sentenced to worse. With tears in his eyes and countless apologies Herlov had promised Rei that he would somehow come back for both her mother and herself. Her mother was betrothed to a cremello stallion in order to redeem her social status. The rumors ceased once their was talk of her being bonded with the highest class possible.

Leridana did not fight the pairing, her heart had shattered with her Herlov's exile and she closed herself off. The only interaction Rei had with her mother after her father leaving was the morning painting over her spots. The family had made the pegasus who discovered the secret swear an oath of secrecy towards Rei's coloring. After a year of waiting for her father's return Rei left armed with the stories he had told her of the places he dreamed of finding and went in search of him.
