APPEARANCE
most accurate body build/feathering reference
actual reference
It's the sheer terrifying size of the beast that most first notice upon meeting him - he stands at 17'2 hands, and appears even larger due to the heavy feathering that runs around all four of his stocky, muscular limbs. It's fairly evident that he's of heavy breed heritage, with the raw power in each thick muscle and the sheer bulk of his build. He is a tank like his paternal ancestors, a war machine built for crushing, accentuated by the powerful arch of his neck with its stallion's crest and his angular, draft-like topline. He is incredibly well-muscled, thick and hard to the touch with not a spare inch of skin wasted. What he lacks in speed and agility he makes up for in sheer brute strength, and his face possesses rugged, stern features that give him a certain rogueish charm. Harsh training throughout his youth has only intensified his natural assets, and thus the mammoth creature is a force to be reckoned with.
A coat of midnight black covers his body, and his mane and tail are made up of the same ebony hue. Like his sire both his forelegs are dipped in white up to the knee, although the feathers around the base of these limbs are usually caked with mud and grime. From his mother he gains his face marking - a broad white blaze, shaped eerily like a skull. His eyes are blood red, piercing and intense.
-> Has burn scars on both front fetlocks, hidden by his foot feathers; scars are pink and faded.
-> Large scar on right shoulder from the front to the back, and another thinner scar starting midway down his spine and flicking off to the right by his flank.
-> Small scar between his nostrils.
-> Multitude of scars on his back and rump from his dragons.
-> Will grow a slight beard beneath his chin when he's about four or five.
PERSONALITY
STRENGTHS
HONEST - HARDWORKING - DETERMINED - LOYAL - BRAVE - NATURAL LEADER
FLAWS
HEDONISTIC - VOLATILE - UNPREDICTABLE - ARROGANT - FEARLESS - RASH - PRIMITIVE - AVARICIOUS
As he's aged, Volterra has lightened somewhat in personality, and is now more likely to be seen with a smile or a quick turn of wit. He is still serious and stern-faced, but it is balanced out with his easy charm and charisma. Like his father Volterra is inherently arrogant, with a sense of entitlement that comes from his royal lineage and his utter belief in his own abilities. He thirsts for power, for domination, and has an unflinching confidence in his ability to gain everything he strives for. Determined to the end, he has an extremely strong sense of vengeance and if he is wronged, he will not rest until revenge is gained.
And oh, does the behemoth have a temper! He is volcanic, prone to explosive and dangerous fits of rage. Volatile, unpredictable; his foul temper usually manifests itself in battle, making him a force to be reckoned with. When he's angry, he loses all sense of self - he becomes the beast. This anger-induced fearlessness on the battlefield is certainly not a good thing, as it removes what little sense he has and means he'll quite happily take bucket-loads of damage to himself as long as he deals out more to his opponent. He fights on instinct; his beserker rage knows no bounds. His dangerous nature is often linked to his twin, Nymeria. His obsession with her is bordering on the unhealthy - he would live, die, bleed for her. Anybody wishing harm on Nymeria risks triggering Volterra's explosive rage, and he will stop at nothing to protect her. The beast is fiercely possessive of his sister, seeing her as his to the point of being smothering, and he's also prone to acting the same around mares he sees as part of his harem.
He is also a natural flirt and has a hunger for women that borders on an addiction; he possesses an all-consuming greed that drives him to want to take anything he sets eyes upon. Reckless and often impulsive, Volterra is inclined to leave the master manipulation to his sister - his motto is to crush first, think later. To add to everything else, the beast is a rather primal creature, ruled by his desires - he lacks a certain element of control when it comes to his urges, whether they be for power, women or anything else. He is a very stallion-y stallion, all testosterone and feral hunger for the pleasures of the flesh. He despises monogamy, seeing it as unnatural, and like a natural stallion he will try to obtain a harem of mares to monopolize as his own.
Although he is a fine physical specimen, Volterra will never claim to be the most intelligent of creatures. He's far from stupid, but mind-games and wordplay are beyond him. On the battlefield, he's an excellent tactician, but off it, he's often left in the dirt by his more intellectual peers. He will learn as he grows, of course, and knowledge will come with maturity, but he is seemingly incapable of directly lying, and frowns upon those who do it.
-> Has a wealth of dragon knowledge, and idolises them.
-> Believes in polygamy - thinks monogamous stallions are weak, and a stallion who cannot nurture a large harem and children does not deserve to breed at all.
-> Minorly sexist, the only exceptions being his sister and mother. Prone to objectifying mares.
-> Enjoys physical contact, and is very taste-and-smell orientated.
-> Little regard for physical boundaries or personal space.
-> Speaks fluent Hungarian, taught to him by his mother and used to communicate secretly with his sister.
-> He is very like a natural stallion, with a stallion's instincts and tendencies. As a result, some of his posts may be NSFW.
-> He cannot/will not lie, choosing instead to speak openly and truthfully. Brutally honest to a fault.
-> On the alignment spectrum he's most accurately defined as Lawful Evil.
HISTORY
Volterra's story began when a conquerer from a far-off land came to Helovia and met a venomous queen, a corrosive empress. Together, they founded the Regime, a band of outcasts with visions of grandeur. Alas, time took its toll and they went their seperate ways - the conquerer, Tyradon the Warbringer, could not function in a mixed-race world when he was so devoutly racist, whilst the skeleton queen Confutatis the World Eater believed that all races could be strong if utilised correctly.

OTHER
COMPANIONS
Impulsive - Bloodthirsty - Dominant - Sexist - Vengeful
-> [ Vérzés | Frost Breath ] His name is Hungarian for bleeding, and has ever there been a more fitting name for a creature? The ruby behemoth tests the upper size limits of what his colour can grow to; he weighs just over 30lb, the very top echelon for a common male, and is 1.8 feet tall at the shoulder. His build is bulky and muscular with four thickly knotted limbs and a deep, pronounced chest. His scales are bloodied, the same gruesome crimson as his bonded's eyes, with his undersides a slightly paler hue. His long, powerful tail ends in a fan-like fork, aiding his maneuverability in the air. Long, bone-coloured horns protrude from the back of his head, and a row of bony spines run down the length of his back. Each of these spines is white, bone-coloured, but each is tipped in red, as though bathed in blood. REFERENCE
The dragon possesses a worryingly bloodthirsty and violent nature, with a temper akin to Volterra's. In addition, he shares his bonded's sexist attitudes; he does not respect female dragons, contrary to most of his species. He is dominant towards almost any other dragon, meaning he is practically a pariah due to not falling in line with the strict scale-colour heirarchy. This includes his golden sister Vadir, which leads to a lot of fighting between the two.
Cold - Harsh - Cunning - Judgemental - Devious
-> [ Vadir | Fire Breath & Shock Breath ] The queen. Vadir, as a royal golden dragon, is the largest her species can possibly be - she weighs 50lbs and stands just over 2.5ft tall at the shoulder, dwarfing even her red brother. Her scales are a pure, iridescent gold, as beautiful as any gem, but she is no simple trophy queen to sit upon her throne - she, like her bonded, is built for war. Her snout is longer and thinner than Vérzés, and the horns that protrude from the back of her head are longer and thicker than his. Numerous other horns adorn her skull, creating the appearance of a crown - and what else would the queen wear? Her tail ends in a savage scythe-shaped weapon, sharp enough to slice flesh.
Her personality is vastly different from her brother and bonded. Whereas Vérzés and Volterra are rash and quick to anger, Vadir exudes refined intelligence. Where they embody fire and raw rage, she is ice; cold and casually cruel. She is quick to assert her dominance over other dragons, including other golds, and often needs to be refrained from attacking companions of other species.
MAGIC
-> [ Magic: Earth | Ability to manipulate the ground to create structures, such as towers, spires, walls and hills. ]
-> [ Magic: Earth x Fire | Can create and animate golems made of stone with fire inside them. ]
-> [ Magic: Earth x Dark | Can shapeshift into a cerberus the same size as his equine form. ]
Volterra's cerberus form is the physical embodiment of his worst traits. The central head is Wrath, the left one Lust, and the right one Avarice. Even in horse form, the Indomitable is a beast. When he shifts into a Cerberus, he becomes something akin to a demon.
Almost eighteen hands of reeking black fur and rippling muscle, he becomes a creature from the depths of the darkest nightmare. The monstrous body is thickset, tanklike, supported by four powerful limbs that each end in a massive paw tipped with savagely hooked claws. The tail is long, hairy, and ends in a devilish fork. The shoulders are hefty and ruffled, like the mane of a lion, and the heads...oh, the heads. Three of them, great wide brutish skulls with medium-length snouts packed with rows of shark's teeth, with glowing crimson eyes and small, pricked ears. The central head - Wrath - is the most active of the three, whilst the others defer to it.
